American Rehabber Does An Extreme Makeover
Students of The Cara Program learn that in order to bridge the gap between past mistakes and future success, they must begin with a strong foundation of integrity and professionalism.
When Kelly Steinert, Director of Operations, saw a critical crack in the structure of Cara’s three-year plan for expansion, she called American Rehabber Services Corporation for help.
“The need for renovation was in relation to our strategic plan for the future growth of The Cara Program,” explained Steinert. “We needed space for the folks in admissions to host interviews for potential Cara participants. Basically we had plans to bring in students and additional staff with no place to put them.”
A team of nine Rehabber employees volunteered a whole day’s work to gut what was once The Cara Program’s clothing room. After cleaning out the area, the team erected a strong foundation of walls and doors to better utilize the expansive space. This new office area now consists of a conference room, storage room, and four offices for Cara Staff members. “The work done estimated between $10,000 - $15,000 worth of labor and construction,” Steinert said. “If Pete and Chris hadn’t agreed to do the job free of charge, we wouldn’t have had the financial means to complete this phase on our own.”
When asked why he agreed to donate remodeling services to Cara, American Rehabber president, Chris Smeaton replied: “Like the Cara Program, we are a growing member of the community and we feel it’s important to be involved and contribute where we can.”
And contribute they do, on a weekly basis. Pete Halligan, vice president of sales and marketing at the corporation, frequently volunteers his time to promote the advancement of Cara students. “Pete has made himself available on multiple levels. For instance, he regularly comes in to conduct mock interviews,” Steinert said.
“I haven’t seen a charity this well run,” Halligan had to say about The Cara Program. “They have a serious emotional investment in what they’re doing. I believe my time working with them is time well spent.”
