June is a Cara student who remained committed to our training throughout her long journey towards securing her quality job. If you have been to ‘Motivations’ recently, you may know that June was with us for 29 months before securing permanent, quality employment. For nearly two and a half years, June stuck with The Cara Program. It took June longer than most to become prepared for employment, because, as she often said, she had farther to come.

Although she was clean and sober when she was accepted into The Cara Program in May 2008 (one of our strict admissions guidelines), June had a history of drug and alcohol abuse. While she was using, she overdosed multiple times. Though she survived, she was not truly living her life.

“I decided to stop dying on my kids,” she told us one morning in ‘Motivations,’ explaining her decision to come to The Cara Program and Cleanslate, our neighborhood beautification business.

Coming back was not an easy process. June had been abused as a child and required therapy to work through her challenges. Through this process, she learned to trust. She learned to smile. June started to believe (for the first time) that not everyone was out to hurt her. Receiving the training that she would need to find a quality, permanent job would be the hardest thing that she ever had to do, and one of the most worthwhile. Through her transformation, she became ‘Miss June’ to her fellow students and the staff.
